Our Whale Route cycling day tour follows the official Whale Route from Hermanus to Gordon’s Bay. These magnificent creatures are here during the months of June to November. Hermanus has been declared by the WWF as one of 12 best places in the world to watch whales.
Your Itinerary and abbreviations:
KM = distance cycled by bike, AM = altitude climbed by bike
Your driver/guide will collect you from your accommodation and drive via Sir Lowry's Pass or previously known by the indigenous Khoi as Gantouw or Eland's Pass as it crosses the Hottentots-Holland mountain range. From here we have a panoramic view over the entire False Bay before heading east through one of the largest apple-growing areas of the Cape. We continue through the Overberg region and then head south towards the Southern Right Whale country.
Depending on your excitement, we relax at a local coffee shop before venturing to the cliff edge lured by the prospect of spotting and spending time with these giants which come into the coves, giving you the opportunity of seeing them close up. We start our cycling from here and cycle via the coastal town of Kleinmond and onto the penguin colony in Betty”s Bay. Spend some time with the birds, have lunch (optional extra) and continue your tour along the Whale Route, ever alert for the “BLOW” to then finish in the coastal town of Gordon’s Bay.
We then load the bikes and drive back to Cape Town with fond memories. KM: 80km, AM: 130m
This PRIVATE tour is ideal for anybody wanting to feel the rush of fresh ocean air while cycling a racing bike. You decide how far and how hard you would like to cycle. This you can discuss at the start of the day with your driver/guide.
We begin our cycle in Hermanus and follow the whale route to Gordons Bay via the scenic Clarens Drive, a coastal road offering spectacular views over False Bay and the Cape Peninsula.
